Vacant Property
Registration Requirements
Commercial and Single-Family Vacant Structures
Every owner of a vacant commercial or single-family structure that is not registered as a property in foreclosure must register the property as a Vacant Property. Vacant means any building/structure that is not legally occupied, unattended, and is not actively used as a place of residence or business.
Owners of vacant structures within a multi-family building are exempt from the registration requirement if all four of the following conditions are met:
A property manager is on the premises
A homeowners’ association is responsible for managing and maintaining the property
Security is located on or responsible for the property
The property manager registers the required information with the Town, at no cost to the property manager
Renewals are due by October 1 annually as long as the property remains vacant, regardless of the date of initial registration.
New Owners are required to create a new registration upon sale or transfer if the property is to remain vacant.
